Stories and fun for little ones.

Dunedin Public Libraries has had a presence at the annual Baby & Child Show since its concept in 2013. With new owners, the show is more inviting than ever.

If you or any of your family are planning to attend the Baby & Child Show, be sure to visit us at our stall to learn about the resources and programmes Dunedin Public Librararies has especially for babies, toddlers and young children up to the age of six years. Along with our usual stall, the library will be showcasing two of our most popular programmes at the show this year, with Wriggle & Rhyme sessions for children aged up to two, plus a storytime for all.

Wriggle & Rhyme, a music based active movement programme for babies up to 24 months, has been provided by Dunedin Public Libraries since 2011. Wriggle & Rhyme was developed and belongs to Sport Otago with Dunedin Public Libraries working in partnership to provide thirty-minute weekly programmes throughout the school year at the City and Mosgiel Libraries.

Music for the programme comes from the library’s varied CD collection for young children, and includes music, nursery rhymes and action songs. This combined with weekly plans and training from the Sport Otago Fundamental Skills Advisor, ensures a consistent series of weekly programmes each school term.

For pre-schoolers over two, our library storytimes introduce young children to a range of library materials including books and music. Storytime helps young children develop pre-reading and literacy skills and is a wonderful way to help children develop a love of books and reading.
