Thursday 5th July, 5.30pm

Please join us for a reading of poetry to highlight the plight of Chinese writer and artist Liu Xia, presented by local members of Amnesty International, and supported by the New Zealand Society of Authors.

Liu Xia lives under severe restrictions in China and is suffering ill-health, exacerbated by her limited freedom. It is hoped these readings, and others around the world, will draw attention to her suffering, and help to bring a resolution to her situation. More information about Liu Xia’s case can be found at https://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/news/2017/08/china-tens-of-thousands-demand-president-xi-frees-liu-xia/

In support of Liu Xia, poets from around Dunedin will read from Liu’s works and their own, including:

Alan Roddick, Carolyn McCurdie, David Howard, Heather Bauchop, Majella Cullinane, Jonathan Cweorth, Kirstie McKinnon, Diane Brown, and Emer Lyons

There will be an opportunity for you to send a message of hope to Liu Xia - cards will be available on the night, courtesy of Amnesty International.
