An oral storytelling competition for young people aged 11-18, based in and around Dunedin

Around the World in 80 Tales

Tell us the story of you! Around the World in 80 Tales Storytelling Festival invites young people aged 11-18 to share with us your family traditions and culture.

We are looking for engaging performances that give a glimpse into the wonderful diversity of Dunedin through the lens of the storyteller's experience.

Record yourself telling your 3-5 minute story and share it with us.

- you can enter online and provide a link to your video file
- you can pick up an entry form from Dunedin City or community libraries or Bookbuses and either provide details of the link to your video file, or securely attach a USB containing your video file. Paper entries can be posted to us or handed in to any of our libraries
- download the entry form if you wish to submit your entry in print form with your file on a USB drive

Prizes will be awarded to the top 6 entries selected by our judges, and the winners will be invited to tell their story in person at one of three Around the World in 80 Tales Storytelling Festival events at Dunedin City Library in 2021 (July, September or December).

- The My Culture, My Story Competition runs until midnight on Monday 31st May 2021
- competition open to young people aged 11-18 (intermediate and high school age)
- Late entries will not be accepted
- Videos must be submitted in .MP4, .WAV or .MOV format via link to a fileshare folder or on a USB
- Videos should be a minimum of 3 minutes and no longer than 5 minutes in length
- All stories performed in the video must be original to the storyteller and not previously published
- Only one entry per person
- Entries will be judged anonymously and independently on the basis of content, performance and originality
- The decision of the judges is final
- Only the winning entries will be notified
- Winning entrants will be selected and notified by Friday 18th June 2021
- The top 6 entries selected by the judges will be invited to perform their story in person at one of three Around the World in 80 Tales Storytelling Festival events in 2021 - either 3rd July, 19th September, or 2nd December - at Dunedin City Library
- Entrants should reside in or near Dunedin City and/or be willing/able to travel to Dunedin at their own expense to perform on their allocated Festival date
- Prize packs, including cash and book prizes, will be presented to the winners after their performances at Dunedin City Library
- Please retain a copy of your video as entries will not be returned
