NCEA History Topics

Dunedin Public Libraries offers a variety of hard copy and digital resources that you will find useful for researching NCEA history topics.


Is a reference only collection with a New Zealand focus and is located on the 3rd floor of the City Library.

The collections includes books, magazines plus primary source material - Vertical file articles, Government documents, letters, speeches, Newspapers, statistical information.

There is a photocopier and microfilm copier available for public use.

Keesing’s Record of World Events  

This primary source resource is a contemporary record of modern history and international current events, arranged geographically. The library holds volumes spanning 1931 to 2014.

It held on the first floor of the City Library and is reference only. Ask at the desk.


Our newspapers are reference-only and can’t be borrowed.

We recommend the following newspapers as resources to use when researching NCEA history topics:

Times of London

Older copies are available on microfilm (1914 – 1950; 1965 – 2002).

The Sunday Times

The City Library holds copies of The Sunday Times on microfilm (1977 – 2002).

The New York Times

The City Library holds copies of The New York Times in print (1936 – 1949) and on microfilm (1949 – 2001).

This great site contains numerous links to New Zealand history material.

New Zealand History Online

A comprehensive site for New Zealand history, it includes information on culture and society, politics and government, and war and society. It has a time-line section, which gives an historic event for every day of the year.
