We are looking forward to rolling out Dunedin’s first new electric Bookbus, which is due to hit our streets at the end of this month.

The electric vehicle – named Te Pahi Pukapuka – is the first of two we will be using in future to deliver the Dunedin Public Libraries’ Mobile Library Service.

The new electric vehicles will replace our old diesel vehicles, which have been in service since 1991 and are at the end of their useful life.

Our Mobile Library Service was scheduled to resume on Monday 16 January 2023, but we need a little more time to complete the commissioning of the new vehicle.

The service will now resume on Monday 30 January 2023. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes and remind customers that there are no fines for late returns!

With more than 2000 books in each vehicle, we’re confident they will help deliver an improved service for the public and help the DCC reach its Zero Carbon 2030 goal.

We plan to buy a second fully electric vehicle to replace the remaining diesel vehicle later this year.
