Lingogo is a library app dedicated to epic stories in indigenous languages. Download the app for free and immerse yourself in your chosen culture. Great for beginner and intermediate language learners as well as fluent speakers. Simply tap any sentence to listen to it aloud and find its English translation.
You can download Lingogo for free on any iPhone, iPad, android phone or tablet. Just go to the Google Play Store or Apple App Store and search for ‘Lingogo’.

Now log in to unlock all the content.
- When opening the app, look for the three-line menu icon at the top left of the screen.
- Tap the three-line menu icon, then My Account, then ‘Tap to choose your school or library’.
- Tap Dunedin Public Libraries then enter your Dunedin Public Libraries ID number (library card barcode) and PIN.
Handy instructions below.
- Once logged in with your library barcode number, browse and explore beginner and intermediate-level stories in te reo Māori.
- Tap sentences for the English translation and tap the headphones icon to hear the sentences read aloud in te reo Māori.
- For an eAudiobook experience, read the story to the end and tap the ‘Extra for experts’ button to listen to the full story in te reo Māori.
If you’re fluent in Māori or a Pacific language, you can pretty much read these stories like normal. If you’re a learner and want some extra help, watch the video below.
