Beyond the Victorian Facade: The Architecture of Dunedin 1945 - 1985
SPEAKER: Mark Mawdsley
Mark is an architect and heritage consultant. Born and raised in Invercargill, he returned to the south almost a year ago after eighteen years in Wellington, Sydney, and Cambridge. He holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Wellington and a Masters in Heritage Conservation from the University of Auckland. Mark is a registered architect and has previously worked in both architectural practice and private heritage consultancies.
In his current role as the Council’s heritage advisor, Mark assists the owners of historic places across the city with guidance on redevelopment, conservation work, earthquake strengthening, and heritage funding. He advocates for adapting historic places for new uses and exploring contemporary design in heritage contexts.
